a-l: animal kingdom day
Animal Kingdom: Sunday, May 14 was our 1st full day at Disney World. We attempted to get up early to make it to Animal Kingdom by opening. However, we missed the 1st bus by about 5 min and ended up waiting around 30 min for the next one. The girls danced around the bus station and we eventually boarded the bus, made it through security, and began our first really hot day.
Bus Rides: Beginning and End
Dinoland: We had Fastpasses for the DINOSAUR ride. A was too small so we got a rider switch pass and Grandpa stayed with her, while J, M, Grandma, and C went on the dark ride. C thought it was too scary and did not want to ride again with Grandpa. J went with Grandpa, while Grandma took C and A on the Triceratop Spin. M took pictures since she doesn't like to spin!
Eating before seeing Elephants: After a couple rounds on the Triceratop Spin (one has to wonder why the line was virtually non-existent), our little hobbits were begging for lunch. We stopped at the Harambe Market for a light lunch before heading to the Kilimanjaro Safari Ride for our next Fast Pass. When we arrived at the Fast Pass Entrance, the line was backed up. Apparently some animals had blocked the track, causing the ride to shut down for a while. We eventually made it through the long line and enjoyed seeing all of the animals.
Festival of the Lion King: Our long wait for the safari ride made us unsure as to whether or not we would make our last Fast Pass to see the Festival of The Lion King. But we managed to sneak in with a few minutes to spare. We were thankful for the air conditioned show.
Giraffes were a part of the scenery on the safari.
Hippos were hiding from the heat in the water.
Illegal or not?: Apparently not, unless visiting Canada where it's illegal to mutilate the face of the queen). There happened to be penny souvenir machines across from the Safari line, which helped pacify the girls while we waited.
Jungle Trek: Much of Animal Kingdom was skipped but there is beauty left to explore for the future.
Kilimanjaro Safari:Yes, the pictures keep coming back to this ride because it was a big part of our day even though we only rode it once... there lies the inherent problem with me trying to mesh the alphabet with a chronological timeline!
Lion and the tree of Life: The lions were also seen while on the Safari ride. We explored the trails around the tree of life on our way out of the park at around 2pm. The girls were hot and tired, and the adults were looking forward to getting ready for our double date at Victoria & Albert's.
After a time of rest and cleaning up, we drove the girls to the Polynesian Resort where we signed them in for a night of fun at Lilo's Playhouse. There they made cookies and volcanoes, met Captain Hook & Smee, sang pirate songs, made pirate crafts, ate dinner, and watched a movie.
The adults headed to Victoria & Albert's at the Grand Floridian Resort where we ate the grandest meal of our life.

Characters- 1st Meet and Greet: We weren't sure whether our girls would really care about meeting characters so we decided to start with a 5 minute wait for Pocahontas (we just watched the movie right before we left so she was still fresh in their memories). C loved the experience. A was not super sure, but they both got a signature to start what would become a fairly decent sized collection).
