air force academy, blisters, critter

we went to the air force academy on wednesday.  when we got home, c had a fever of 102.  she had a fever of 101 after garden of the gods the day before so we were starting to wonder if she was getting over heated since she really had no other symptoms and she insisted on "hiking" on her own.

thursday, we went to a park in the morning.  in the afternoon, we decided to stay inside so we headed down to focus on the family.  they have a toddler playground, big slide for older kids, and dress up theaters to play in.  c only wanted to be held.  she pretended to play for a little bit then ran back to "mommy."  she fell asleep in the car.  when we got home, her temperature was 104.  30 min after baby motrin, and it was 104.3.  m called the dr.  of course, they wanted her to be brought right in.

off to the dr, we went.  lots of screaming ensued.  dr was stumped, thought it could be roseola but c was acting like she was in more pain than usually goes along with that virus.  so off to the lab we went.  more screaming.  all tests indicated a virus so we were instructed to continue treating the fever and watch for the tell-tale rash that goes with roseola.

friday morning rolled around to bring in even more screaming.  c was certainly acting as though something was seriously wrong.  fever was down to 102.7, but she was acting scary: either completely listless or screaming bloody murder while throwing herself around.  m called the dr again.  of course, they said bring her back in.  this time, the dr saw lots of teeny tiny fever blisters in the back of her throat.   diagnosed her with herpangina (a virus similar to hand foot mouth disease).  we put her on a jello and applesauce diet.

on saturday night, the tell-tale rash that goes with roseola broke out and her fever was gone.  so as far as we can tell, she seems to have had both viruses.

the screaming has lessened and changed to whining when the pain hits.  her appetite is coming back and she's eating more real food.  now, we're just trying to keep her busy so she can't think about the pain.  critters are good pain control.

painting is also good pain control.
